MSC IN ADVANCED DENTAL IMPLANTOLOGY

The Master of Science degree in Advanced Dental Implantology is a Level 7 postgraduate qualification awarded by Aston University, Birmingham, United Kingdom. Teaching is provided by the Cambridge Academy of Dental Implantology in collaboration with The Implant Institute and Aston University. The qualification is aligned with the United Kingdom's Regulated Qualifications Framework (RQF), permitting use of the postnominals MSc (Dent Imp).

This course is suitable for beginners and experienced implant dentists.

​

The MSc is a 2 year (part time) blended learning course, delivered via a combination of online and face-to-face teaching (delivered fully remotely in Australia).  The program is suitable for beginner level upwards.

Outline

YEAR 1 (PGDip) - 90 CREDITS

TERM 1

(January - March / September - December)


Module 1:  Patient Assessment, Diagnosis & Treatment Planning (online delivery). 15 credits

Module 2:  Preclinical Practical Skills Week (6 day contact class in Perth, WA). 15 credits

Module 3:  Implant Prosthodontics and Occlusion (online delivery). 15 credits

TERM 2 (September - December)

Module 4.  Basic Sciences Related to Implant Dentistry  (online delivery).  15 credits

Module 5:  Evidence Based Dentistry (online delivery). 15 credits

Module 6:  Clinical Cases:  As per delegates' individual bookings.*  15 credits

YEAR 2 - 90 CREDITS**

Starts September each year

Module 1:  Research Skills (online delivery plus 2 day contact class). 30 credits

Module 2:  Research project and dissertation.  60 credits

​

Each student is assigned a personal tutor.  The tutor will help the student in choosing a project, determining the research methodology and in planning the dissertation.​ The project dissertation should be 8,000 words. The project requires students to design, implement and evaluate a research study relevant to dental implantology. Students may choose from a wide range of possible subject areas, which could include patient psychology, healthcare economics, consent, radiology, anatomy, treatment outcomes, materials, pharmacology, etc. Students are required to produce work that meets all programme outcomes at masters level. â€‹

Year 1 (PGDip equivalent):

A$25,950 + GST (or enrol for PGCert and apply for PGDip extension later)

12 month payment plan available.

Year 2 (MSc, Aston University):

£15,000 (no VAT)

Year 2 course fees can be paid over 3 instalments, at the start of each term 

​

*Experienced implant dentists, who have independently treated a minimum of 20 full implant cases and have at least 2 years experience in dental implantology, may apply for exemption from clinical supervision. On this pathway, case reports must be submitted for 6 implant cases. Those without such experience require direct supervision on their clinical casework, and Tutors receive the clinical treatment fees for those cases supervised.

**A grade of 60% or more is required in all modules of the Year 1 program to allow continuation into Year 2.
